TRACKWORK | 30 SEPTEMBER 2025
John Jenkins | September 30, 2025

Good workouts by last start winner Tulsa King, Fancy Like Lass and Written Up were the highlights at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing.

Tulsa King finished ahead of Portersway at the end of 800m in 52.3, the last 600 in 37.8.

Trainer Aaron Bidlake said Tulsa King has thrived since winning a three-year-old race over 1200m at New Plymouth in September 13 and the Staphanos gelding will now contest another three-year-old race over 1200m at Hawera this Saturday. Elen Nicholas has been engaged to ride him again.

Fancy Like Lass had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working over 800m in 52.1, the last 600 in 37.9. The Hellbent mare has been back in the Thompson/Brown stable for three weeks after undergoing pre-training at the beach. She will have a 1000m trial at Foxton on October 14 to prepare her for a return to racing over 1000m at Trentham on October 26.

Written Up took the time honours for the session when running a solo 800m in 50.2, the last 600 in 37. He is likely to kick off a fresh campaign in a Rating 65 race over 1100m at Taupo on October 10.

Exit Left worked in from the 1000m peg at three-quarter pace, quickening over the last 600 in 39.8. He is likely to race next in a Rating 65 race over 1600m at Otaki on October 11.

Meritable, another likely to start at the Otaki on October 11, was kept to just three-quarter pace over 1000m in 1:18.1, the last 600 in 44.2 while Vaporize was not hurried when running a solo 800m in 59, the last 600 in 42.

Mount Cook worked with a So You Think three-year-old gelding over 600m in 41.2 while Waft was kept to just three-quarter pace, running home her last 600m in 44.4.

Media Puppet finished in front of Ocean Beau at the end of 800m in 57.7, the last 600 in 42.8 while Tremont ended his work with an easy 600m in 44.6. He is a three-year-old by Time Test in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable.
