TRACKWORK | 31 DEC 2024
John Jenkins | December 31, 2025

Strong workouts by the stablemates Meltemi and Prestissimo were the highlights in a quiet trackwork session at Hastings this morning.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing.

Meltemi strode out well over 1000m in 1:02.2, running the first 400m in 26.6 before coming home the last 600 in an excellent 35.6s.

The Darci Brahma filly, trained by Jordan Bassett and Richard McKenzie, won a 1000m Foxton trial on December 17 and may make her race debut in a maiden three-year-old 1200m race at Otaki on January 6, providing the track is not too rain affected.

Prestissimo was restricted to just a 600m sprint and she finished full of running after clocking 37.1s. The Time Test three-year-old has been freshened since contesting the O’Learys Fillies Stakes (1340m) at Wanganui at the end of November and could start in a Rating 65 race over 1600m at Trentham this Saturday.

The Stoney One worked easily on his own over 800m in 55, the last 600 in 39.3 and he could start next in an Open 1100m race at Trentham on January 11.

A Proisir three-year-old filly in Patrick Campbell’s stable, was kept under a hold over 600m in 39.5. She is a half-sister to the well performed Duncan Creek.
