TRACKWORK | 31 MARCH 2026
John Jenkins | March 31, 2026

An excellent solo gallop by last start winner Exit Left was one of the highlights at today’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was carried out on the course proper for the first time since the re-cambering and reconstruction work has been completed and those that used it to work their horses gave it an overwhelming tick of approval.

Some horses galloped up against the newly erected inside running rail while others worked about five metres out and some even took a wider berth. There was only a minimal amount of surface damage from the horse’s hooves.

Exit Left had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working in from the 1200m peg on the course proper. He ran the first 600m in an easy 44.1 before quickening appreciably over the last 600 in 36.1.

The Turn Me Loose gelding as obviously trained on well since winning over 1200m at Wanganui three weeks ago and may start next in a Rating 75 race over 1400m at Waverley on April 10, providing the track is not too firm.

Sid’s Mate was another who turned in an excellent gallop on the course proper. Trainer Kate Hercock was aboard and kept the gelding out wide when working over 1000m in 1:06.8, the last 600 in 35.9. He was a good last start third over 1600m at Tauherenikau.

Trust Alone, who could race at Wanganui next Monday, ended her work on the plough with 600m in 37.5 and looked to be stretching out well at the finish.

Creation was another who worked over 1000m on the course proper clocking 1:08.7, the last 600 in 38.9 while two Per Incanto two-year-old fillies in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable sprinted 600m on the course proper in 36.9.2

Abby Takes It All, trained by Mick Brown and Sue Thompson, worked in from the 1000m peg on the course proper and was timed to come home the last 800m in 54.8 and final 600 in 39.7. She was working well out from the inside running rail.

Our Boy Archie and another stablemate from Kate Hercock’s team worked together over 800m on the course proper in 51.6, the last 600 in 36.5 while Charlunga ended his work on the course proper with 600m in 41s. He is a four-year-old gelding by Rock ‘N’ Pop.
