Gohugo easily took the time honours at today’s Hastings trackwork session, running a quick 800m on his own.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing.

Gohugo sprinted 800m in 49.9, clocking 13.8 for the first 400m before coming home the last 600 in 36.1.

The Per Incanto gelding was unplaced when resuming from a spell over 1200m at Trentham two weeks ago but looks to have trained on well since and will contest the Rating 75 race over 1200m at Wanganui this Saturday.

Fancy Like Lass also worked well on her own when running 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 37.9. She will race next in the $65,000 Open 1100m race at Trentham on January 17.

Sea Star Win, who could either start at Otaki this Friday or Wanganui on Saturday, sprinted 600m in 36.9 while Ocean Beau worked over 1200m in 1:23, the last 600 in 37.7. He is another who could race at either Otaki or Wanganui this weekend.

Sunshine Ale, entered for the Rating 75 race over 1600m at Otaki, was let off with an easy 800m in 58.6, the last 600 in 42. The Telperion mare finished a good fourth over 1600m at Tauherenikau last start.

Curtsy was another who was let off with an easy workout when running 800m in 55.3, the last 600 in 40.9. She is entered for the Maiden 1600m race at Otaki.

An Exceedance two-year-old gelding in the Thompson/Brown stable finished clear of one by Embellish at the end of a quick 600m in 36.5 while Hard Work and Buzzy Bee worked together over 1000m in 1:05.4, the last 600 in 37.5.

Katsu was kept to not much more than three-quarter pace over 800m in 59.5, the last 600 in 42.1.
