TRACKWORK | 7 OCTOBER 2025
John Jenkins | October 07, 2025

An impressive workout by the open sprinter Meritable was one of the highlights at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was conducted on the plough and wide out on the No.1 grass, both tracks providing good footing.

Meritable finished about three lengths clear of stablemate Exit Left at the end of a strong 1200m on the grass. He was timed to run home the last 1000m in 59.2 and final 600 in 35.9.

Trainers Mick Brown and Sue Thompson were considering running the Snitzel entire in the Group 3 Spring Sprint (1400m) at Otaki this Saturday, but the likelihood of a very wet track will probably see him bypass that race. He could instead race at either Ellerslie or Trentham the following Saturday.

Exit Left will start in the Rating 75 race over 1600m at Otaki this Saturday with Matthew Cameron booked to ride him.

Fancy Like Lass was another who galloped on the grass track and worked in from the 800m peg, running home the last 600 in 38.4. She is likely to have a trial at Foxton next week to help prepare her for a return to racing in an open 1000m sprint at Trentham on October 26.

Written Up, who could resume after a long layoff at Taupo this Friday, worked with Portersway over 1000m on the plough in 1:05, the last 600 in 37.2.

Vaporize worked in from the 800m peg on the plough and was timed to run home the last 600 in an easy 39.1 while Mount Cook was not hurried when running a solo 800m, the last 600 in 42.1. He is a promising three-year-old by Castelvecchio who recorded a win and a second in two 1000m trials at Foxton in August and was then given a month freshen up.

Say I Do clocked 52.9 for a good 800m gallop on the plough, the last 600 in 37.8. She hasn’t raced since July but looks in great condition. Trainer Patrick Campbell is finding it hard to find a race for the Pierro mare as she has dropped to a low position in the ratings.

Prestissimo worked very early in the session and galloped over 1000m in the dark while Vincero, a member of Aaron Bidlake’s team, worked nicely on his own over 1000m on the plough in 1:07, the last 600 in 38.8. Prestissimo may start next at Trentham on October 18.

Media Puppet and Ocean Beau worked keenly together over 1000m on the grass but were not timed while Wild Thyme ended her easy 800m workout on the plough with 41.1 for the last 600m
