A good workout from Tulsa King and a nice gallop from the stablemates Will and Stylish were among the highlights at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.
Galloping was mainly confined to the No.1 grass, which provided heavy footing after overnight rain.
Tulsa King worked on his own and was timed to run 800m on the grass in 52.7, coming home strongly over the last 600 in 37.9. He worked in the middle of the track, in the best footing.
Trainer Aaron Bidlake said Tulsa King has taken a bit longer to come up since resuming from a spell but looks close to peak fitness again and will contest the Rating 65 race over 1600m at this Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting. Samantha Collett will ride him.
Will and Stylish, two horses from the Lowry/Zydenbos stable entered for Hastings on Saturday, worked together over 1000m, wide out, on the grass and clocked 1:09.9, the last 600 in 39.6.
Will hasn’t raced since May but finished a close third in a 1000m Foxton trial lasty week and will contest the Special Conditions maiden over 1200m at Hastings on Saturday while Stylish is a Sword Of State three-year-old filly who has been placed in three trials and could make her race debut in the Listed Sir Colin Meads Trophy (1200m) on Saturday.
Zorero, another from the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked easily over 1000m on the grass in 1:14.4, the last 600 in 41 and he is likely to kick off a fresh campaign in the Rating 65 race over 1200m at Hastings on Saturday.
Prestissimo had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when sprinting a good 600m on the grass in 37.5. She will be entered for the Rating 65 race over 1400m at Taupo this Friday.
Suave, another entered for the Special Conditions Maiden at Hastings on Saturday, worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg on the grass and quickened appreciably over the last 600 in 38.7.
Exit Left hit out well over 800m on the grass in 53.1, the last 600 in 38 while his stablemate Buzzy Bee was kept under a hold when running a solo 600m in 42.4.
Fortunato was not asked to do too much when running a solo 800m on the grass in 57.6, the last 600 in 41.8. He was an impressive debut winner at Taupo last month and is now being aimed at the Group 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m) at Hastings on September 26.
Say I Do and Touch Of Paradise worked well together over 1000m on the grass, in the middle of the track, and clocked 1:04.6, the last 600 in 37.8 while Sunshine Ale and Asha sprinted home their last 600m on the grass in 37.8.
Lassie, who could be entered for Taupo on Friday, was only let stride out the last 400m when running 600 on the grass in 44.2 while Molly Brown ended her work with an easy 600m in 41.9.
Justadude, in his first serious hit out since returning from a spell, clocked 40.3 for his last 600m on the grass while a Mongolian Falcon three-year-old gelding in Dean Howard’s stable ran over the same ground in 39.7.
Abbey Takes It All was not hurried when running 600m on the grass in 43.2 while a Derryn three-year-old gelding trained by Taylka Hall worked easily over the same ground in 44.
