TRACKWORK | 9 DECEMBER 2025
John Jenkins | December 09, 2025

Stablemates Spark and Uncle Ken worked keenly together at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session as they prepare for upcoming assignments.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing.

Spark and Uncle Ken were two of the first horses to gallop and were sent over 800m. They were timed to run home the last 600m in 37.3, with both horses striding out well at the finish.

Spark is a three-year-old filly by Time Test and a half-sister to the well performed Candle. She finished fourth on debut in the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton back in September and was then put aside for a spell. She has come back in great order and will resume in a maiden three-year-old race over 1000m at Trentham this Sunday.

Uncle Ken is a four-year-old by Savabeel who dead-heated for first over 1700m on the Awapuni synthetic track at the beginning of this season. He finished second in a 1200m Woodville trial last week and will resume at the Otaki meeting on December 19.

Fancy Like Lass, another likely starter at Trentham this Sunday, worked easily on her own over 800m in 54.8, the last 600 in 39.7. She needed the run when resuming over 1200m at Otaki last month and should strip fitter for the Open 1200m race at Trentham.

Sol De Otono looked to be travelling better than Flying Agenda at the end of their 800m gallop in 53.2, the last 600 in 39.8.

Sol De Otono resumed from a spell with a good fresh up fourth over 1200m at Otaki on November 30 and will now be stepped up to 1600m on the same track on December 19.

Media Puppet and a Hello Youmzain three-year-old gelding, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked together over 800m in 53.8, the last 600 in 38.8.

Ocean Beau was not hurried when working on his own over 800m in 58.7, the last 600 in 43.1. He won a 1200m trial at Woodville last week and is likely to start in a 1200m maiden at Trentham this Sunday.

Bar Room ran a solo 800m in 53.5, the last 600 in 39.1 and is likely to head to the Foxton trials next Tuesday.

A So You Think three-year-old gelding and one by Turn Me Loose, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked together over 800m in 53.6, the last 600 in 40.2 while Father Ted was given an easy 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 41.2.
